Bernard C. “Ski” Makowski, age 85 of Sayreville, passed away Wednesday April 2, 2015 at his home with his family at his side. Born in Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania he had resided in New York City, Weehawken then Carlstadt before moving to Sayreville 5 years ago. Mr. Makowski proudly served his country during World War II and Korea in the United States Marine Corp, was a member of the John Basalone Detachment of the Marine Corp League, Sayreville American Legion Post 211 and Sayreville VFW Post 4699. Before his retirement 20 years ago he was employed as a truck driver retiring from Lily Tulip in Holmdel and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 560 and 641 for 35 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville, Our Lady of Victory Council 2016 Knights of Columbus in Sayreville and was a member and past Exalted Ruler of Weehawken BPO Elks Lodge 1456.

He is predeceased by his wife Gloria in 2010 his parents Bernard & Ann Makowski and his sister Doris Zaharuk. Surviving are his children and their spouses Robin Paczkowski of Lanoka Harbor, James & Kathy with whom Ski lived with and Kim & Richard Borowski of Cresskill, his grandchildren Michael, Kevin, Gina, Kara, Michelle and Mark.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Friday from 5pm to 9pm. The following groups will hold services Friday at the funeral home: American Legion Post 211 7pm, V.F.W. Post 4699 7:30pm, Marine Corp League 8pm, and Sayreville K of C Council 2061. Letters of condolence, directions and completed arrangements can be found at maliszewskimemoralhome.com

Funeral services will be held Saturday 9am from the Maliszewski Memorial Home 121 Main Street Sayreville followed by a 9:45am Liturgy Of The Word at Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville with entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, North Arlington, N.J. The family has requested that in Lieu of Flowers donations in Ski’s name be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation or the National Disabled American Veterans Association.
