Vernon Chevalier Sr.
Vernon F. Chevalier, age 93 of Sayreville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 20, 2018, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick with his loving family at his side. Born in Sayreville he was a lifelong borough resident. Vernon proudly served his country during World War II, with the rank of Sergeant, in the 482nd Tank Ordnance Company in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a life member of Sayreville V.F.W. Post 4699 and Sayreville American Legion Post 211. Mr. Chevalier was the owner and operator of V. Chevalier and Son in Parlin since 1946 and was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville.
He is predeceased by his wife Sophie Podbelski Chevalier in 1999, his grandson Swede Chevalier on 9/11/2001 and his siblings William, and George Chevalier. Surviving are his children and their spouses Deborah & Andrew Wallentine with whom he lived and Vernon F. Jr. of Atlantic Highlands, his grandchildren and their spouses Rebecca & Gregory Bullen, Andrew Wallentine and Dr. Mitchell Cooper, Brittany Chevalier McIntyre & Clark McIntyre and Tylia & Scott Furgal, his great grandchildren Brayden Bullen, Owen and Kara Furgal and his brothers Robert Chevalier and Fritz Chevalier.
Calling hours at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin, will be held Sunday from 2pm to 6pm.
Funeral services will be held Monday 8:45am from the funeral home followed by a 9:30am mass at Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville with entombment with military honors to follow at Saint Mary’s Mausoleum, in South Amboy.
Members of Sayreville V.F.W. Post 4699 and American Legion Post 211 will hold military services on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Vernon’s name be made to Sayreville First Aid Squad P.O. Box 9 Sayreville N.J. 08872.
