Dorothy  A  Hoffman (Serencko)
Dorothy A. Hoffman, 89, of South River, fell asleep in the Lord on May 16, 2018 at CentraState Hospital, Freehold, NJ. A lifelong resident of South River, Mrs. Hoffman was a homemaker.
She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Max F. Hoffman, and her sisters, Mary Milyo, of South River and Elizabeth Kay of East Brunswick. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Serenko, of South River.
She is survived by her loving children, Mark of Jackson, Mary Ann of South River, and Lawrence of South River, NJ, and her loving granddaughter, Lauren Marie. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Rausch, of Highland Park, NJ. She also leaves behind two beloved sister-in-laws, Alma Hoffman of Greencastle, PA, and Doris Hoffman, of Middletown, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hoffman was active in the Democratic Party in South River for many years, serving as Vice Chairperson in the 1970s. She led the successful campaigns of two New Jersey State Assemblymen beginning in 1976. Her pride in her hometown was relentless!
One of her proudest accomplishments was as a founding member of Nativity of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in East Brunswick in 1969. She dedicated many years of her life to church activities, including fundraising, beautification of the Church, and fellowship.
Funeral services are at Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River, NJ. Calling hours are on Friday, May 18, 2-4, 7-9pm. Funeral Services are on Saturday, May 19, beginning at 11:30am at Maliszewski, followed by a 12:00 pm mass at St. Stephen Church, 20 William St., South River. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South River Police Department. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of South River Trust Account, 48 Washington Street, South River NJ 08882, Attn: Joseph Zanga.
