Mrs. Muriel C. Costa nee Kennedy went to her eternal rest on May 11, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ.
Muriel is survived by her son, Daniel Costa and his wife Linda, her daughter Susan Guszkowski and her husband Dennis, her grandchildren, Craig Matthew Guszkowski, Karin Nicole Chinnock, Brent Chinnock, Tori Ann Varek, Zachariah Varek, Jessica Marie Patullo, Gregory Patullo. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Benjamin Joseph Costa, retired firefighter from Jersey City (Truck 7, Engine 11) and by her parents Daniel J. Kennedy and Anne Metro-Kennedy.
Muriel was born on August 26,1934 in Jersey City, NJ. Married to Benjamin on September 22, 1956. As an only child, Muriel appreciated her extended family ever more, and there were many.
Muriel was a devoted, caring and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a member of St. Anne’s RC Church on Kennedy Blvd and Nelson Ave in Jersey City, where she taught CCD for many years under the director of Sister Alberta.
She attended bible study with her husband Benjamin with Father Paul DePachichio Manzo of Holy Rosary Church. She and Ben received their instructions from Dec. Joe Del Monte. One year novitiate received by the Holy Habit (Scapular and cords given in the footsteps of St. Francis). She was on the team for the 118th Women’s Cursillo where she had given the Ideals Talk.
After the death of her husband, she moved to Sayreville where she joined the Church of OLV in 1992. She taught CCD and became a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of St. Bernadette’s Jesus Redeemer Charismatic Prayer Group for many years. She loved teaching CCD, and encouraging her pupils on the joy of God, and was a daily communicant. Murielt loved spending time with her special friends and the relation ship they shared in there catholic beliefs. In her later years she was a amateur painter and studied to become a cosmetologist.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 8:45am from the Carmen F Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry lane, Parlin, NJ followed by a 9:30am funeral mass at Our Lady of Victories, Sayreville.
