Isabel Colaneri Kennedy, age 94 of Sayreville, passed away Saturday March 24, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Jersey City, she was a graduate of Dickenson High School and worked for Western Electric where she met the love of her life, Joe. They raised their family in the Parlin section of Sayreville and she resided in the borough for 64 years. Before her retirement 32 years ago, Isabel worked as a saleswoman at J. C. Penney in the Sayrewoods Shopping Center where she loved fashion and interacting with people. She was a communicant of St. Bernadette’s RC Church in Parlin, where she joyfully sang in the choir. Isabel was an active senior and a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters Queenship of Mary No. 1743. Isabel was inducted as a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, NYC, in 1989. She loved spending time with friends and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Sayreville Seniors Tuesday and Wednesday Clubs, and the Curvaceous Crimson Hatters Chapter of the Red Hat Society.
Isabel was always upbeat and positive and brought joy to everyone who knew her. She loved trips to Atlantic City where she was a penny slot master! She could always spot a bargain and loved shopping at J. C. Penney. She loved watching her granddaughters dance and her grandsons play baseball and was affectionately known as “Nana” to everyone. She loved to cook and bake and everyone appreciated her culinary talents. She enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music, word search puzzles and watching Family Feud. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is predeceased by her husband Joseph, and her son William. She is also predeceased by her brothers Felice, Michael, John, Anthony, Joseph and her sisters Anna and Rose.
Surviving are her daughters and their husbands Judith and Alan Browning, Kathleen and Robert Schenck, her daughter in law Bridget Kennedy, her grandchildren Kyra-Beth Schenck and her partner Jovan Mann , Arielle Dickey and her husband Austin, Zachary Browning and Joseph Browning. She is also survived by her brother, Felix (Buddy) Colaneri of Rochester, NY and numerous nieces and nephews and their families whom she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 8:45am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane with a 9:30am mass at St. Bernadette’s RC Church in Parlin. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin.
