Obituary for Theodore V. "Ted" Berardicelli

Theodore V. "Ted" Berardicelli
Theodore V. Berardicelli - 88 of Parlin entered eternal rest on February 16, 2018.

Born and raised in Palisades Park, “Ted”, “Poppy”, “Uncle Teddy” has called Sayreville home for much of his life. Settling in Oak Tree East in 1966, Ted took great pride in choosing the “perfect” lot to have a family home built. Ted took pleasure in caring for that home and its grounds up until just a few years ago. It is in that home that he entered eternal rest. An avid painter and gardener and consummate perfectionist, he dabbled in carpentry and plumbing. But he always “left the electrical to the professionals” like his lifelong friend, Willie Dell. A die hard sports fan, Ted enjoyed many decades rooting for the Giants, Rangers, Knicks and Yankees. He enjoyed coaching little league and girls softball in both Palisades Park and Sayreville. But, his favorite team was the Sayreville Bombers football team. He attended countless games over the past 30+ years once being named the team’s “#1 Fan”. Educated at Leonia High School and New York University where he completed his Bachelor of Science in only three years, he enlisted in the United States Army fresh out of high school at 17 years old where he proudly served as newspaper editor of the 72nd Signal Services Battalion, Headquarters Company in Occupied Japan from October 1946 to January 1948 when he was honorably discharged. Ted was Production Editor of Publications with NYU’s Institute of Economic Affairs for 14 years. Spending 17 years employed by Peter F. Mallon in New York as a Typographic Service Rep, he continued his career as a Plant Manager and Sales Rep for several printing companies until his retirement in 1994. Continuing his love of language in those retirement years, Ted’s favorite morning routine included the daily cryptogram and the New York Times crossword puzzle. Ted was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Community where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Ted was predeceased by his parents Vincent Theodore and Mae Berardicelli (Fusco) and his four-legged pal, Jimmy. He is survived by his wife Dolores (Canevari) of 55 years, sister Nancy Masiello of Monmouth Beach, children Dina Hall (Gail Lehman) of Bethlehem PA, Judy Gary (Scott) of Parlin and Matthew Berardicelli of Viola DE as well as 11 grandsons – Edward Scott Hall II (Katie), Jon Hall, Michael Gary (Jessica Nucifora), P. J. Gary (Lacey), Timmy Gary, Eric Berardicelli, Andrew Berardicelli, Teddy Berardicelli, Austin Saeger, Maxwell Saeger and Jacob Luttrell as well as one granddaughter – Theresa Gary, two great-granddaughters – Gavriella and Josephine Hall, several nieces and nephews and his four-legged pal George Gary. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 19 at 10:00am from Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin followed by an 11:00am mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church, 20 Villanova Road, Parlin. Cremation and interment will be private. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 1pm to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the New Jersey Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org/nj, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org or the Sayreville Touchdown Club http://www.sayrevilletdc.org.
