Obituary for Helen Keister

Helen   Keister
Helen Keister, age 90 of Sayreville, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2017 at home.

Born and raised in Lansford, PA, Helen met and married the love of her life, Robert, and moved to Sayreville where she raised a family and resided for the past 67 years. Being the daughter of parents who owned a hotel and restaurant in Lansford, PA, Helen enjoyed working in the restaurant industry for many years before retiring from the Forsgate Country club in 1987.

Helen was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church in Sayreville and was a long-time member of the Sayreville Senior Citizens’ Tuesday, AARP, and St. Stans Clubs. Helen enjoyed serving others and volunteered her time for many years at the Sayreville Citizen Center. She was the proud recipient of the Knights of Columbus Shield Award for Senior Citizen of the Year in 1997 and was also honored on two occasions by the Mayor and Borough Council of Sayreville for her many years of service to the senior community. Helen had a love for music and was a talented accordion musician performing in her youth in state competitions with her two sisters Pauline (piano) and Anne (violin). Helen loved to sing and for many years was a member of the Old Bridge Chorus.

She is predeceased by her parents Andrew and Pauline Hlavaty, her husband, Robert in 1987, a son Robert in 2012, and her sisters Pauline Zanat and Anne Macenka. Surviving are her children Karen Yudin (Garry) of Milltown, NJ and Nancy Brady (Richard Doyle) of Manahawkin, NJ

Helen will be sadly missed by her 3 grandchildren Laura (Kevin Cieslukowski), Michael and Kristin ( Dan Waldron) and her four great-grandchildren Joelle, Alannah, Naomi and Benjamin along with many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Pearl Grossman, Kathy and Marge Smith for the loving care they provided to Helen.

Calling hours are Thursday December 14, 2017 at the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Sayreville , NJ, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday December 15, 2017 followed by an 11am Mass at Our Lady of Victories Church. Interment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery , Parlin, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 3 Eves Drive Suite 310 Marlton, NJ 08053
